Art Inspiration, Discussion & Appreciation

Relativity by M. C. Escher (1953)
What we learned-
Escher used mathematical principles in his artwork, focusing on balance, line and proportion which give his works a precise feel.
Escher works are primarily achromatic (black, white and gray), lending to an even more graphic effect.
This work (like many others) used the artist technique of lithography, meaning that the image was first drawn onto a special stone on which it was then burned into (using a chemical blend) and off of which prints were pulled.
Discussion Questions:
Why would Escher use “blank” (faceless, featureless) figures in his work?
What do you think inspired Escher to create this world?
What would it be like to live in Escher’s Relativity?
